Overcome the stresses and demands of daily life to connect with your loved ones.

We live in a go-go-go world. With our trusty smartphones ever at the ready, we’re never more than a moment away from being reached if someone needs us. This can be great in a family emergency, but getting pinged day and night can really wear on you in the long-run.

Is the stress and demand of your busy life making it hard for you to dig up extra energy to connect with the people closest to you? If so, consider using these tips.

  • Define Your Priorities. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, make a list of all of the things that are pulling at your time and energy. Then, rank them. What can you give up? Maybe that means buying cookies instead of baking them for your kid’s bake sale; that’s okay! Put the bulk of your energy towards what’s most important, and give yourself grace if other things slip through the cracks.
  • Make Space. Set aside a dedicated time where you and your loved ones power down your phones and slip away to an un-distracting place to reconnect. Carving out this time is hard, but it’s well worth the effort to keep your relationships healthy.
  • Learn To Say No. Stop agreeing to do everything! You’re only one person, and for every extra task you take on, you have to give up something else. Learn the art of saying no, and you free yourself up to care for yourself and the people in your life.

If you feel like you just can’t connect with those closest to you because of all of the pressures on you, contact Community Presbyterian Counseling Center.
