Setting Apart A Sabbath

Work Better By Working Less
The Biblical concept of the Sabbath still has applicability in the modern age. With digital data constantly at our fingertips and every person in your rolodex just one text message away, most of us are out of the habit of slowing down. This leads to us running ragged through our weeks, scraping by, barely getting everything done, only to start the next week with just as much to do but less energy with which to do it.
Where does it stop? Only when you make it. Whether you choose to carve out a full day or little periods of Sabbath throughout your week, protecting space in your schedule to allow yourself to rest, recover, and rejuvenate is crucial. You may be thinking you simply do not have the time to slow down, but doing so could actually help you get more done.
Think about how you feel after coming back from a vacation. After some time away to relax, you come back to work ready to be your best self. You have more energy for your friends and family. You may even get started on some new projects you have been meaning to tackle. Ultimately, some time away can help you get more done when you get back.
Even if you cannot take a vacation each week, you can set up a mini retreat for yourself by giving yourself a Sabbath. Turn off your phone, hide your work somewhere it will be off your mind, and allow yourself time to just be.
After years of movement, you may find it challenging to slow down. If you are feeling burnt out, contact the Community Presbyterian Counseling Center in San Ramon, California. Our staff of caring experts can help you learn to slow down, helping you not just survive but thrive!
