Remaining Mindful in the Moment

In a recent Harvard study, Steve Bradt discovered that approximately 47% of individuals spend their days pondering about subjects that are not pertinent to the present moment. Our thoughts are alike a monkey propelling from one branch to the next as we process thousands of thoughts each day whether it pertains to our relationships, occupation, goals, dreams, anxieties, education, or so on. However, the concept of mindfulness reminds us to be present in the moment and break away from the business of life.

Mindfulness, despite the impact and influence it has developed within our present culture amongst schools, athletes, and even politicians, is not a newfound discovery. Mindfulness is a way to challenge negative thoughts and cause individuals to become aware of them to ultimately remove their negative influence. Additionally, research has revealed that mindfulness can influence not only individual’s psychological health but also their biological health through avenues such as stress reduction, life longevity, and emotional well being.

Here are some helpful ways to consider beginning to integrate acts of mindfulness into your life:

  1. Set aside dedicated time
  2. Remain present in the moment by focusing on the existing event rather than allowing your mind to wander to the past or future.
  3. Strive to remain non judgmental toward your thoughts as they arise and return to remaining mindful.
  4. Act with awareness

Today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday.
