More Than Happy: Joy In Defeating Worry

Three Tips For Saying Goodbye To Worry

You know that worry is not good for your physical or emotional health, but banishing anxiety takes so much more than just deciding to do so. Certainly, you know that your worry is not serving you but does that keep you from it? To help you on your path to a life free of fretting, consider these thoughts.

  • Worry Is Draining. Solutions Are Energizing. Take the time and energy you would spend on anxiety and do something productive with it. You cannot control the way things turn out, but you can control the way that you handle them. Focus on the process and where you intend it to take you rather than possible results. All you can do is take things one day at a time, and focus on making as much progress as you can before the next sunrise.
  • The Thing About Which You Worry May Never Happen. How often does it happen that you lose sleep over a possibility, only to find that it does not ever come to life? Do you remember what you were worried about last month? Last year? Probably not. Remind yourself that whatever is concerning you could never happen. You can worry about it if it does.
  • You Only Have Today. As Jesus reminded us in Matthew 6, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” There are no guarantees in this life, so do not waste the precious moment you have right now worrying about tomorrow’s troubles. Today should not be damaged by the unpredictable future; enjoy the moment!
